The crisis of 2024 did not release its hold in 2025. On June 4 and 5, TheIssa put words to the resistance he felt from an institution he had expected to support him. He experienced added burden and a diminishing of his value where he had hoped to find empowerment.
In July and August, friendship conflicts brought that struggle into his personal life. Telling the truth and setting boundaries cost him people he had once expected to remain best friends. Another death in July deepened the sense that time was not waiting for reconciliation. By December 9, he could also name the deterioration of his love life while pursuing ambition—the loneliness of building a future without the reassurance of being chosen in the present.
His mother was aging, nieces and nephews were growing, and family milestones continued whether school, money, travel, or work allowed him to attend. Recognition had once seemed capable of justifying so much sacrifice. Now, being denied it exposed how much authority he had left in other people’s hands. His self-respect could not remain something an institution or a relationship was free to grant and withdraw.
That is the smaller victory inside “The Battle Has Been Won,” from Enter The Empire. Grief, loneliness, and conflict had not ended; he was preserving the artist without waiting for permission to value him. But defending that self was not yet the same as knowing how to live with him. The larger change would ask what all this endurance should make possible beyond endurance itself.
